نبذة مختصرة : In this research, mathematical modelin g is used as a process to provide a translation of a mathematical system that rep resents an aspect of Babylonian knowledg e into academic mathematics. In any ethnomathematics pr ogram, modeling is a language used to mathem atically translate and describe systems by distinct cultural groups. Thus, the emph asis of this research is directed toward an ethnomat hematical rhetorical aspect and the resolution of a problem - sit uation related to calculating a rectangular area, which was wide ly used in ancient times by the Babylonians to solve problems faced in their daily lives . Another important aspect of this study is the translation of this practice for academic mathem atics with the use of resources and techniques of modeling seeking its relationship with the ethnomathema tics progr am objectives .
