Convergences between Freud and phenomenology: an interdisciplinary look

The purpose of this essay is to analyze some connections between psychoanalysis and phenomenology on the basis of Freud's, Husserl's and his follower’s works. The critiques of the phenomenological philosophers concerning the epistemological foundations of the psychoanalytic theory are also reviewed. The changes on the psychoanalytical concepts in the 20's began to bring together the two theories, in an interdisciplinary convergence that increased in the following decades. Hermeneutics may be seen as the connection point between psychoanalysis and phenomenology, the former focusing on sexuality and the later focusing on ontology.
