While studies on intelligent medical engineering have been the focus of broad research interest, there remains a gap in the literature pertaining to trends in the field as a whole. To gain insight into the research trends and focus area in this field, a bibliometric analysis was herein conducted analyzing intelligent medical engineering-related studies included in the Web of Science database over the past decade. The goal of these analyses was to identify important trends, keywords, research topics, institutions, countries/regions, and journals in this field, while also assessing the impact of these extant intelligent medical engineering studies. This approach ultimately revealed the ongoing expansion and influence of intelligent medical engineering-related research, with cluster and timeline analyses for related keywords enabling their categorization into 22 main themes, while also clarifying the chronology patterns characterizing the emergence of these themes. Content analysis was performed to clarify the overall impact of this research area, leading to the identification of fifteen primary technology application categories. Together, the results of this bibliometric analysis offer high-level insights into the progression, development, and broader implications of research focused on intelligent medical engineering discipline, providing a foundation that can help inform ongoing studies and direction of intelligent medical engineering education.
