نبذة مختصرة : In this paper we deal essentially with the ninth and tenth centuries. On occasions, this time span is expanded, bringing it forward as a sort of introduction, and surpassed, in some specific aspect, to reflect on particular issues concerning the Liber Testamentorum from the cathedral of Oviedo. We take into consideration its documentary, chronicle and epigraphic sources as well as some legendary traditions; and from the artistic viewpoint, we regard what the work itself offers us. Those works which have reached us and occupy a unique place in the Medieval History of Art are fundamentally linked to a religious setting and have various meanings, materials and uses.
