نبذة مختصرة : Objectius. Donar una visió històrica de l'evolució de la catalogació des de final del segle xix, quan apareixen els primers codis personals i institucionals, antecedents directes dels actuals, fins al dia d'avui. Prestar atenció sobretot als acords internacionals que han facilitat l'intercanvi de dades bibliogràfiques i també el desenvolupament de serveis bibliogràfics, de catàlegs col·lectius i de consorcis. Presentar la situació actual en què l'entorn angloamericà està a punt d'implementar una nova normativa catalogràfica que, probablement, esdevindrà internacional, i en què la Library of Congress està treballant en la posada en marxa d'una nova estructura bibliogràfica que s'acomodi millor a les necessitats del present i del futur. -- Metodologia. Anàlisi de les situacions, els acords i les accions que han portat a l'evolució de les normes, al desenvolupament de formats, i al reforçament de la teoria que els dóna suport. -- Resultats. Al llarg de les diverses etapes analitzades, els canvis catalogràfics han estat conseqüència de nous marcs teòrics, de canvis tecnològics i també de pressions econòmiques i de la necessitat de racionalitzar els processos. Ara es donen totes aquestes circumstàncies: uns principis teòrics que s'han desenvolupat en els darrers anys i uns models conceptuals que ajuden a perfilar l'univers bibliogràfic, una tecnologia que ha avançat molt des dels anys seixanta quan es va concebre el format MARC, la necessitat de capturar dades bibliogràfiques de procedència diversa i amb més agilitat, etc. Tot això ha impulsat els canvis que s'estan forjant des dels anys noranta del segle passat. Tanmateix, el moment present és una etapa de transició i no serà fins d'aquí a uns anys que es podrà avaluar si la generació actual ha sabut fer tan bona feina i tan perdurable com la que va liderar els canvis dels anys seixanta i setanta.Objectives. To provide a historical overview of the progress made in cataloguing since the late nineteenth century, when the first personal and institutional cataloguing codes, the forerunners of those used today, appeared. To examine international agreements that have facilitated the exchange of bibliographic data and the development of bibliographic services, collective library catalogues and consortia. To describe the current situation in which Anglo-American libraries are about to implement new cataloguing rules that are likely to be adopted internationally, and in which the Library of Congress is working on the launch of a new bibliographic structure that is better adapted to present and future needs. -- Methodology. Analysis of contexts, agreements and actions that have prompted the evolution of cataloguing rules, the development of new formats, and the strengthening of the theory that underpins them. -- Results. During the various stages analyzed, the changes recorded in cataloguing have tended to be the result of new theoretical frameworks, technological change or economic pressures and the need to rationalise processes. Today all these factors would seem to be converging. Thus, new theoretical principles have been developed in recent years while new conceptual models are helping to reshape the bibliographic universe; technology has advanced greatly since the 1960s when the MARC format was first introduced; the need to record bibliographic data from various origins and with greater agility is now more pressing, etc., etc. All these elements have produced the changes that have been taking shape since the 1990s. However, the situation today is a stage of transition and it will be some years before we are able to determine whether the present generation has been able to produce work that is as good and as lasting as that which ushered in the changes of the sixties and seventies.
