    • نبذة مختصرة :
Fürst Medical Laboratory replaced atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) for determination of trace elements, with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The methods for determination of zinc, copper, selenium, aluminium, lead, cadmium and mercury in serum, whole blood and urine developed on the ICP-MS, are simple, robust and give a high sample throughput. The long term precision is good and the accuracy, compared with commercial and external quality controls, is satisfactory. The results from internal and external quality controls are from routine analysis. The analysis is carried out on an Elan® DRC II with a reaction cell for polyatomic interference removal. Determination of selenium is tested with (DRC mode) and without (standard mode) reaction gas. Standard mode is chosen for routine determination of all the elements in patient samples. The change in methodology on trace element determination has led to a reduction in laboratory staff and more reliable routine analysis.
