The aim of the study - to reveal the roles of the social worker in providing assistance to women who have experienced physical violence in the close environment. In order to prevent the emergence and spread of physical violence against women in the domestic environment, it is important to first address the causes of violence. The causes of violence are complex, spanning individual, relational, community and societal levels. The problem requires appropriate, timely and compentent help. The social worker plays a particularly important role in the assistance process by empowering the woman and the community to recognise the violence, clarifying the causes of the violence, initiating the assistance process, providing information on the possibilities of assistance, advocating for change, developing autonomy in the search for a solution to the problem, individual counselling and mediating between the woman and the institutions providing assistance.
