Tech Talk A few months ago, word got out that the Freeman-Lozier Library had fifteen “Journals in Jeopardy!” How did this happen? How could this be? As with any product on the market, sometimes the shelf life comes to an end. It is sad but true. There is a saying, “here today, gone tomorrow.” We do not usually experience that in the library world. We do our best to find out from our students, faculty, and staff what their views are on the materials they want in their library. Then we try to find those materials to meet their academic needs. “Journals in Jeopardy” started in November with fifteen journals. The Senior Director, Library Services, the Technical Services Librarian, and the Serials Specialist, decided to put these journals on “trial” to see what the Bellevue University patrons thought about these journals. They were prominently displayed in the Periodical section of the library along with ballots and a ballot box. Our patrons could vote to keep or remove these journals from our collection. The journals and ballots were also put on Facebook and on the student computers for people to vote. Thank you for your responses! We received one response from Facebook, three in our ballot box and forty-two from the library computers. We had a total of forty six participants: 30 students, 8 faculty, 4 staff, and 4 other.
