نبذة مختصرة : The War Emergency Law is the last option as a solution to a security and order crisis that could threaten state sovereignty. This article was written with the aim of describing the national political conditions leading up to 1957 and the role of the military in the implementation of the war emergency law in 1957. The research method used is the historical method, which consists of systematic steps, namely collecting sources, criticizing sources, interpreting sources, and writing research results. Based on the research results, it is known that Indonesia's social, political, and security conditions during the liberal democracy era did not show conditions capable of providing security stability for the Indonesian nation. There was conflict between national figures, which led to the fall of the cabinet and the eruption of regional unrest. The military takes on the role of an organization capable of being relied upon to overcome crises of national security and order. The military encouraged the head of state to immediately enact the war emergency law with ratified through Law No. 74 of 1957, which regulated various options for dealing with the national crisis.Abstrak Undang-Undang Bahaya Darurat Perang adalah opsi terakhir sebagai solusi atas krisis keamanan dan ketertiban yang dapat mengancam kedaulatan negara. Artikel ini ditulis dengan tujuan mendeskripsikan kondisi politik nasional menjelang tahun 1957 dan peranan militer dalam pemberlakuan undang-undang bahaya darurat perang tahun 1957. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode sejarah yang terdiri dari langkah-langkah sistematis yaitu pengumpulan sumber, kritik sumber, penafsiran sumber, dan penulisan hasil penelitian. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa kondisi sosial, politik, dan keamanan Indonesia pada masa Demokrasi liberal tidak menunjukkan keadaan yang mampu memberi stabilitas keamanan bagi bangsa Indonesia.
