نبذة مختصرة : This report, titled "Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education: Potential, Challenges, and Opportunities," provides a comprehensive view of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is impacting and can impact higher education. This report is set in the context of June 2024, a time of rapid advances in AI. It is aimed primarily at educators and seeks to help them acquire the necessary core competencies in the use of AI applied to the teaching and learning process, to be able to take full advantage of the possibilities it offers and in turn empower students to use AI in a responsible way. It highlights several areas where AI can transform education, including content creation, assessment, personalization of learning, intelligent tutoring systems, assistants and chatbots, and early intervention through predictive AI. The central section of the report examines the current use of AI at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and other educational institutions, presenting case studies that illustrate practical applications that are already happening, so as to serve as examples or inspiration for educators when integrating AI into their teaching practice. Examples are the use of ChatGPT in internships, virtual assistants in educational escape rooms, or adaptive quiz generators. In addition, it describes various AI-based tools and technologies available to educators, such as ChatGPT, Perplexity.ai, Gemini, Claude, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion, among others. The report also addresses the opportunities and challenges that AI presents for educators. Opportunities include improved personalization of learning, assessment, content creation, and provision of immediate feedback.
