نبذة مختصرة : Relations between general and particular properties of the Serbian culture presented in the paper are grasped in two models: parallelism and discrepancy between the utopia of orthodoxy and the myth of community — two notions defined as functional equivalents of the universal and local factors. Different mechanisms of unification and separation which are present in many spheres of civilisation (historical consciousness, religion, customs, art, social-political practice etc.) take place between them. The representative selection of examples aims at presenting the Serbian culture as hierarchical as well as heroic, and simultaneously exposed to disintegration and demythologisation. Combination of the archaic and contemporary elements constitutes the original content and system of values but on the other hand it is a source of the national complex.
