    • نبذة مختصرة :
Death and burial rituals are inseparable from traditions and traditions are defined as a consistent rhythm and repetition of similar beliefs, activities, institutions and work. This repetition is determined by the societal aim to link the dead and the living generations. In this context the burial places become sacred urban spaces as heterotopia, reservoir of memory and recollections. Cemeteries are an integral part of the city as a living organism. Not only it provides a functional meaning as the final resting place for the dead, but it is also a public space containing the heritage of architectural semantics, at the same time serving as city gardens and parks – quiet memory isles in the urban fabric, and live outdoor museums. Historically religion, traditions, historical heritage and culture formed firm cemetery planning axes and fixed guidelines. In most cases these axes characterize the attributes within the cemeteries, however, the contemporary postmodern society lacks the integrity of burial places into the city context. There are three cornerstones of search criteria within this work: PLACE / TRADITIONS / VALUES, and the detailed analysis suggests that newly established cemeteries are integral components of the urban city. This work also analyzes the application of sustainable and ecofriendly cemetery planning principals, also providing an adjacency and confrontation of new burial approaches, means and traditions. In the context of modern architecture this research discloses the essential interactions between the burial traditions and location.
