      Monografia (especialização) - Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, Centro de Educação, Curso de Especialização em Gestão Educacional, EaD, RS, 2013. ; The organization and management of the school, today is a reflection of the Cartesian paradigm, which until recently governed society, determining the way of being, acting and living of the people and consequently of organizations and social groups, especially regarding the exercise of authority and power. The new paradigm sees man as a whole and as a being of relationships, which establishes the need and importance of a leader manager, dialogical and that encourages participation. To this end, this research is anchored in the following issue: What are the challenges of democratic management of early childhood education? Thus, this research is aimed, in general, reflect on the challenges of democratic management in Early Childhood School Mundo da Criança from Tapera / RS and as specific objectives, priority is given to recognize the theoretical and legal requirements related to the democratization of public school; discuss the principles and mechanisms of democratic governance for the organization of early childhood education school and manager operations; identify main competencies and challenges of the school manager, with a view to designing democratic participative management in the early childhood education school. The kind of research was case study, through a qualitative approach, using as instruments for data collection, with semi-structured questionnaires - with open questions, and closed, for five teachers and three components of the management team of the school, and later analysis to conclusions. This way, both research and theoretical findings refer to the figure of the manager, as a leader and responsible for promoting all actions performed in school.
