نبذة مختصرة : Development of a bovine milk safety control system and of a quality payment system among farmers in the Asella region (East Arsi), Ethiopia General objective of the project: To enhance food safety at regional level in Arsi Zone, Ethiopia, promoting safe milk production by proper monitoring of the milking practices among farmers, and disseminate the implementation of incentive payment system to promote quality based payment system Workplan: 1st stage (Nov 2010- Apr 2012) Data collection from smallholder farmers by using structured questionnaire; training of a Ph D student from Ethiopia at the University of Milan on milk safety issues; milk sample collection in Arsi zone for microbiological analysis (Enterobacteriaceae, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Brucella) 2nd stage (June – Dec 2012) Characterization of the husbandry practices in selected districts in Asella; milk sample collection and microbiological analysis for assessment of occurrence and characteristics of pathogenic Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) in raw bovine milk to determine the quality of milk in the selected milk shed Asella Dairy Union
