نبذة مختصرة : Introduction: number of elderly drivers suffering from osteoarthritis will increase in the future. A car is avaluable tool for elderly's mobility and social participation. The aim of this study was to investigate the factorsassociated with difficulties using a car in patients suffering from gonarthrosis or coxarthrosis.Material and method: 829 patients from the KHOALA cohort (French prospective multicenter cohort ofsubjects aged 40 to 75 years with coxarthrosis and/or gonarthrosis, with annual follow-up for 10 years) wereincluded. 3 questions of OAKHQOL questionnaire reflecting physical difficulties using a car were used asprimary endpoint. We performed a mixed model including these variables: age, gender, education level, maritalstatus, physical activity, sedentary lifestyle, mental health, comorbidities, BMI, location of osteoarthritis, pain,functional score, Kellgren stage.Results: variables significantly associated with difficulties using a car were: sedentary lifestyle, pain score,functional score, and age.Discussion: although our primary endpoint lacked objectivity and specificity, our results are consistent withthose of other studies evaluating factors influencing elderly's driving.Conclusion: several factors, especially sedentary lifestyle, are associated with difficulties using a car inpatients suffering from gonarthrosis or coxarthrosis.
