      Introduction: The current situation of alcohol consumption by indigenous people is a result of the colonial past, because of the violence experienced by the people, being catastrophic and disruptive. Objective: To analyze the prevalence and factors associated with alcohol consumption in an indigenous community in Northeastern Brazil. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional study, developed in the Pankararu community, with 268 indigenous participants in villages, aged at least 18 years old of both sexes. Interviews were carried out with the participants, applying two instruments, one containing the sociodemographic characteristics, and alcohol consumption and the other with the validated instrument Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). Results: A higher prevalence of alcohol consumption was identified in males (75.3%), with low education (83.1%), single (76.5%), who do not attend church or house of prayer (90.0 %), consider alcohol consumption a problem (94.3%) and smoke (77.9%). Conclusion: The chance of having risky consumption was about four times greater among men; the chances were also higher for participants with low education and smokers, while the fact of attending a church or house of prayer reduced the chance of risky consumption of alcohol. ; Introducción: La situación actual del consumo de alcohol por parte de indígenas es consecuencia del pasado colonial, como consecuencia de la violencia vivida por el pueblo, siendo catastrófica y disruptiva. Objetivo: Analizar la prevalencia y factores asociados al consumo de alcohol en una comunidad indígena del noreste de Brasil. Métodos: Estudio descriptivo, transversal, desarrollado en la comunidad Pankararu, con 268 indígenas de aldeas, con edad mínima de 18 años de ambos sexos.
