This article is the first study on the naming strategies in the ethnobotanical nomenclature of medicinal plants in Cashinahua (Pano). This linguistic group is located in the Yuruá-Purús basin, on the border between Peru and Brazil. This study focuses on the variety spoken in Peru. First, within the framework of cognitive semantics, we have seen the use of an important series of metonymies, metaphors and metaphtonymies to name a whole paradigm of plants according to their medicinal uses and the Cashinahua cosmovision. A Cashinahua taxonomy has also been identified that distinguishes plants with a generic name and distinct curative properties and several plants with specific names and similar curative properties, as well as specific plant names that correspond to a single plant family.
