International audience ; The text takes as its guiding thread a love of the forest and trees, the capacity of which is shown by numerous examples to be dormant in everyone and to awaken in any "universal proletarian" (G. Sand) a desire to be one with it, to which a long history bears constant witness, which, through impeded forms of this love, has intersected with a history of conflict over freedoms, rights and powers over the entire natural domain of human activities. Two topical examples - that of environmental activists mobilised to protect trees from the construction of a new motorway (A 69), and that of artistic activism targeting museum representations of nature that have become powerless to show the devastation wrought by the relentless exploitation of resources - point to the need for a new political approach to the compromises invented in the nineteenth century between foresters, landscape painters and nascent tourism when protected natural areas were created (Fontainebleau Forest, 1853), and to urgently question the repressive excesses of a state power such as the current French government, which is sinking day by day into the senseless criminalisation of all democratic practices. ; Le texte prend pour fil directeur un amour de la forêt et des arbres dont de nombreux exemples montrent la capacité à sommeiller en tous et à éveiller en n’importe quel « prolétaire universel » (G.
