Hyperspectral imaging reveals myocardial ischemia

Ischaemic heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide attributing to 16% of deaths [1]. Because evaluation of myocardial tissue ischemia during surgery is very challenging, an advanced intraoperative imaging technique is needed. To address this, a case study is presented evaluating hyperspectral imaging (HSI) as a noninvasive, contrast-free and real-time imaging approach. Moreover, to the best of our knowledge, this is the fist evaluation of HSI for the given application.
