La evolución de la adquisición de la competencia científica en los alumnos de la ESO de un centro concertado catalán

      Due to globalisation and new technologies, the education system must have been adapted to the present social needs. Some changes were introduced in the Spanish educational system with the Ley Orgánica de Educación 2006, which incorporated the competences in the official curricula of compulsory secondary education (ESO). One of these competencies was the scientific, which allows students to acquire permanent scientific knowledge that will be useful for their adult lives. Because of the above-mentioned reasons, the objective of the present nonexperimental transversal research is to study how the acquisition of the following capabilities of the scientific competence progresses along the course of ESO: to explain scientifically phenomena (EFC) and to interpret scientifically data and evidences, in the students of a Catalonian charter school. The study sample consisted of 164 students, 88 of which were at the first ESO course and 77 at the last ESO course. Both capabilities were assessed with a competency test in order to obtain their level of acquisition. In addition, opinions of four Biology and Geology teachers from the mentioned school were analysed. Obtained data were analysed statistically. Based on the results of the present study, we found a slight increment in the acquisition level of the two studied capabilities between the first and last ESO courses. In addition, statistically significant differences were found in the acquisition level of the EFC capability between the fourth ESO-course students that had the Biology and Geology module and those who hadn’t it. In order to avoid this inequality, a set of didactic activities for all students are proposed as an outcome of the present study; these or other similar activities should be compulsory for students to acquire the scientific competence. ; La globalización y las nuevas tecnologías han producido cambios sociales, generando la necesidad de adaptar el sistema educativo a ellos.
