نبذة مختصرة : The European Championship of the Men’s Club was played at PalaEur in Rome 22nd- 24th April 1997. FIBA the governing body of international basketball ranked the top twelve European National Federations on the basis of their inter national records over the past three years, Greece, France, Italy and Spain were ranked 1st to 4th respectively.Twenty four clubs competed and each played a total of 16 games. The top four teams in each of the four groups advanced to the best of three playoff series until four teams remained. The final six teen teams consisted of three each from Italy and Spain, two each from Greece and France, and one each from, Croatia, Slovenia, Yugoslavia, Germany, Turkey and Israel. The Championship Final was between Olympiakos (Greece) and FC Barcelona (Spain). Olympiakos were the winners and the most valuable player was their own David Rivers, the guard.
