نبذة مختصرة : The present work proposes to carry out an investigation on the profile of the EJA student in Porto Franco, a municipality located in the state of Maranhão. Our study focus is EJA - Education of Youth and Adults, from where we start to understand who are the subjects who seek this type of education, in order to find out what reasons led them to return to school. Thus, our starting point was to understand the history of these subjects, in order to reflect on the difficulties they encountered in the EJA and understand who they are and what factors led them to opt for this type of education. For the purpose of carrying out this study, the methodology used is based on a bibliographic research that served as a theoretical subsidy and a field research directed through a script of questions carried out in the schools Unidade Integrada Professora Ercilia Bento and Unidade Integrada João Walcacer. The analysis of the records obtained was carried out in a qualitative way, based on authors such as Germano (1997), Haddad and Di Pierro (2000), Oliveira (1999), Paulo Freire (1987; 1981; 1980; 1990; 1999) Arroyo (2009) ; 2017; 2019) and others, which were essential to help us understand our object. Thus, it was found that the subjects of EJA have peculiar characteristics, they are workers, unemployed, housewives, young people, adults and elderly people who seek in school, an opportunity to improve their lives, as they see in the conclusion of their studies the only opportunity to outline other itineraries. ; O presente trabalho propõe fazer uma investigação sobre o perfil do aluno da EJA em Porto Franco, município localizado no estado do Maranhão.
