      The aim of this study is to analyze how women become union members, women who work in education, that are school representatives in the 24th nucleus of the Rio Grande do Sul State Teachers Center - CPERS / SINDICATO, based in the city of Pelotas. These school representatives, mostly women, play a fundamental role with regard to the basic work performed by this entity, being responsible for mediation between the union, the school and its community. However, this work sometimes ends up being invisible. Therefore, this study proposes to reflect on the path taken by these professionals within this entity, to analyze the role they play as school representatives and to understand the relationships they establish throughout their lives as union activists, as well as to discuss the gender paths that cross this path. Therefore, in this qualitative research, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven school representatives, being eight women and three men. These interviews were recorded and transcribed and submitted to content analysis, adopting categorization as a methodological procedure. Evidences, after analyzing the data collected in the interviews, showed that these education workers are undergoing, an increasingly fiercely process of proletarianization that results from the intensification and precariousness of work, impoverishment and illness of the category. It was also identified that these factors affect men and women in different ways. In addition to the intensification and precariousness of work, there is also the burden of domestic work and care taking for their sons and daughters for women.
