نبذة مختصرة : Reading, as an act that comprehends all spaces of human life, is also present in Brazilian penal institutions through the recently created Remission by reading project. The person deprived of liberty uses the reading project to redeem the sentence and to construct social development. In that regard, In this sense, the process of citizenship construction of people deprived of liberty established in the legal provisions involving Remission through Reading is analyzed, contributing to the reflection on the presence of reading in penal spaces as a way not only of remitting the sentence, but of propose human dignity for the person deprived of liberty, in accordance with CF/88. However, it is necessary to understand how legislation can promote development and thinking on themselves and on the world. So, this paper analyzes the role of reading promoted by the Remission by reading project. In view of what is proposed in this project, it is necessary to understand and analyze how legislation aims to materialize the reading for people deprived of liberty. Therefore, the goal is to contribute to the ressocialization of people deprived of liberty. Through the qualitative literature review on the importance of reading and legal assumptions, it is analyzed that it is more than an opportunity to redeem the legal sentence; however, its constitution needs to be improved, so that reading, in fact, can fulfill its role. ; A leitura, como ato que compreende todos os espaços da vida do homem, também está presente nas instituições penais brasileiras por meio do recém criado projeto Remição pela Leitura.
