This bachelor’s thesis discusses the fundamental concepts of social networks and their analysis by delving into the history of this field and exploring several automated and manual ways to gather information about communities. The author then explores several of these automated methods by creating a data set made up of posts from Twitter and constructing a social network out of them. Some of the methods tested include methods such as basic network visualization, community detection, centrality measures and text analysis. The results are then analyzed and presented, the peculiarities discusses.
