نبذة مختصرة : Kate Van Cantfort was born in 1977 in South Carolina. Her daughter Emma Van Cantfort-Carpenter was born in 2007 in Kansas. Kate mainly grew up in Milledgeville, Ga. Her parents worked in local radio. Kate studied non-profit management and has worked with a diverse array of organizations. She currently lives in Athens, Ga. and owns a small business. Emma lives in Athens with her mother and attends school. On January 21, 2017, millions of people worldwide took part in marches to protest the inauguration of Donald Trump as the President of the United States. The first protest, which took place in Washington, D.C., was known as the Women's March on Washington and was intended as a response to anti-woman rhetoric and beliefs that were espoused during Trump's campaign. While women's and reproductive rights were at the forefront of marchers' concerns, many also protested the racist, anti-immigrant, anti-science, and other controversial sentiments expressed by the incoming Trump administration. ; In this interview, Kate Van Cantfort discusses her early interest in political protest and activism. She discusses her education and emphasis on service learning and civic duties. Kate discusses her reaction to the election of Donald Trump. Kate and Emma then discuss two protests they organized in Athens, Ga.
