      The first Arts Officer at the Victorian Trades Hall Council was George Seelaf who came to the position c.1975 after a long career as Secretary of the Australasian Meat Industry Employees' Union. He was also active in the Footscray Historical Society and the establishment of the Footscray Arts Centre in 1973. Some of his activities as THC Arts Officer included seminars in 1977 and 1978 on 'Trade unions and the arts 'Factory festivals' of Arts and Crafts; arts and crafts exhibitions at Trades Hall and Community Arts Centres. The 'Art and Working Life ' movement saw its genesis at this time.
