This bachelor’s paper is about analyzing data from Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study. In this work the only data that is used is fourth and eighth grade students’ mathematical results. Main goal is to find out how using latent variables can help analyze this data. To be able to do that using ltm package was necessary , specifically Rasch model. This function helps to determine which questions in this study does not provide with valuable information and can be erased from the upcoming studies. Additionally, this data allows to divide results by gender and compare them which helps understand a little bit more who may be smarter in mathematics – boys or girls. All this gathered information contributes to making this study more effective and more accurate for future results of our country.
