The name Girardy is found spelled Girard, Gi- rardet, Girardeau, but we are not sure of the origin of the family. In his memoirs written about 1752, Jean Francois Durucant, in Quarterly, Vol. 19, says: "Going to an assignment to the Yazoo Post in November of 1721, by way of Lake Pontchartrain, we rowed up a river for two leagues.
