      The following dissertation, written within the scope of the degree of Masters in Artistic Education studies, was originated from the issue whether a temporal coincidence existed or not while the change of paradigms occurred on the Portuguese school curricula and the informal artistic teaching during the period designated by Estado Novo – New State.In it an approach to the theme of non-formal Education is used, which demonstrates itself through exhibitions, ballets, cinema, theater and the regime’s propaganda among others, alongside with the policies of teaching, of the school ‘s curricula during 1928 and 1974 and particularly during the age of the New State.This dissertation aims to show the importance of the artistical teaching on Portuguese Education and to prove that besides its presence in schools, it was also present outside national schools, visible through parallel artistical demonstrations, boosting the Regime’s main ideologies on the people.It is looked at the understanding of the influence that the regime of the New State exerted on the education, the school’s curricula and on Portuguese society in order to through propaganda, reforms, a strong control and repression to build the “New Man”.In it, it is enhanced the importance of Antonio Ferro and his so called “Policy of the Spirit” he performed as director of the secretariat for the national Propaganda and also the initiatives he developed for through Art to show Portugal to the country and to the world. The main reforms of teaching are highlighted, particularly emphasizing the reforms led by Cordeiro Ramos, Carneiro Pacheco, Pires de Lima, Galvão Teles and Veiga Simão being particularly relevant the development of the artistical teaching its didactics and methodologies on primary school, technical schools and on national schools
