      Each year, 15 million infants are born prematurely worldwide : prematurity is defined as any birth occurring before the 37th week of amenorrhea. The complications induced by these premature births constitute the main cause of mortality under 5 years of age for children. In France, premature infants represent 60,000 births, which cause upheaval within a family. Premature newborns require medical care in a neonatology department. This hospitalization is vital for the survival of the infant, but also to ensure the monitoring of proper development and allow specific support for the various pathologies. For several years, many medical advances as well as researches, have enabled a constant improvement in the care of these infants and make it possible to overcome these many immaturities or to reduce the consequences that they could induce. The pharmacist’s community, local health professional and pillar of Public Health, plays a major role in supporting parents and caring for premature infants : coordinates the infant's care pathway, helps parents in understanding of the various immaturities likely to affect the infant and the treatments put in place by the medical teams, reinforces their knowledge of the specific techniques for taking certain medications, raises their awareness of preventive measures, whether in terms of hygiene or vaccination. The pharmacist also educates parents on the various childhood pathologies and guides parents on their care. Reinforced follow-up of these children continued until the age of 7 years. ; Chaque année, 15 millions de nourrissons naissent prématurément dans le monde : la prématurité est définie comme toute naissance survenant avant la 37ème semaine d’aménorrhée.
