      Introduction: The returns of time and today’s working conditions threaten the boundaries between the working life. Apart from work and private life, it is important to adjust the balance of life for the person who is an “individual". Transferring conflicts in working life to private life has made discussable the work and life balance of the nursing which is a difficult profession already and intensive care nursing which is a special part of the nursing. Aim: The aim of the study is to investigate the work and life balance of intensive care nurses. Method: This study which examines the work and life balance of intensive care nurses is descriptive and cross-sectional and the universe of this study includes 132 intensive care nurses working at Dokuz Eylül University Hospital. In this study, 114 intensive care nurses were reached by using face-to-face questionnaire method. Sociodemographic personal data form and Work and Life Balance Scale were used as data collection method. Data were analyzed by using one-way analysis of variance, t test, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test and multiple regression analysis. Results: There was no statistically significant difference when we look at the effect of the variables of gender, educational status, marital status, living with someone, having children and number of children on work and life balance of intensive care nurses (p>0.05); however we can see statistically significant difference when we look at the income status, age,intensive care unit, shift of work, length of work experience in intensive care unit, monthly average working hours perception, intention to leave the work variables on work and life balance of intensive care nurses (p0.05). Conclusion: Factors such as the intention to leave the work that threaten the work and life balance and especially have effects at the organizational level were identified.
