نبذة مختصرة : The article discloses the role of international legal acts in the mechanism of legal support for the functioning of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine. It was noted that this problem requires its solution, both at the theoretical and practical level. It has been proved that the study of the role of international legal acts in the mechanism of legal support for the functioning of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine is based on the following grounds: first, the existing international legal acts, the consent to be bound by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, are part of the national legislation of Ukraine; secondly, thanks to these international legal acts, the State Penal Enforcement Service of Ukraine provides a humanitarian mechanism developed over the years and approved by the international community for the legal impact on prisoners in places of non-freedom with a view to their correction and resocialization; thirdly, international legal acts are specific guidelines for the transformation of the penal system into a new form of penitentiary system. Thanks to international legal acts, the legal support for the functioning of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine has acquired a new meaning in the direction of formulating the optimal mechanism for applying a progressive system of execution of punishment and has made it possible to substantiate the importance of a block of work of an innovative nature prepared by the scientific school Intelligence. It was noted that in the context of a modern rethinking of the role of international legal acts in the mechanism of legal support for the functioning of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine, there was an urgent need to conduct an appropriate scientific search with the solution of specific scientific problems, which is an indisputable and very important scientific matter.
