Teacher as Writer and Researcher: The Poetry Dilemma ; O professor como escritor e pesquisador: O dilema da poesia

Translation of the article “Teacher as Writer and Researcher: The Poetry Dilemma”, by Patrick Bizzaro, originally published in 1983, in the Language Arts magazine (v. 60, n. 7). In the article, the author reflects on his poetry writing teaching practices in relation to his own poetic writing, that is, on the implications of the Creative Writing teacher’s multifaceted personality – as theorist, writer, and researcher – in his ways of teaching. At first, he bases his reflections on the three methods for teaching poetry writing raised by Lucky Jacobs in the article “Three Approaches to the Teaching of Poetry Writing” (1977): models approach, activities approach and models and activities approach. He then reflects on the creative process itself, analyzing different stages in the composition of one of his poems. Finally, he discusses the discoveries provided by the undertaken process of self-analysis, establishing bridges between research, teaching, and creation. Despite having been published almost 40 years ago, the article is a relevant contribution to the academic field of Creative Writing in Brazil, in its current moment of consolidation and expansion. ; Tradução do artigo “Teacher as Writer and Researcher: The Poetry Dilemma”, de Patrick Bizzaro,2 publicado originalmente em 1983, na revista Language Arts (v. 60, n. 7). Num primeiro momento, embasa suas reflexões nas três abordagens utilizadas no ensino de escrita de poesia levantadas por Lucky Jacobs no artigo “Three Approaches to the Teaching of Poetry Writing” (1977): abordagem por modelos, abordagem por atividades e abordagem por modelos e atividades.
