    • نبذة مختصرة :
On the basis of Ephesians 2:11-22, the answer to the question – is there a supersessionist theology in the Letter to the Ephesians – has to be nuanced one. On the one side, there is no indication which favours the idea that Israel lost its status as addressee and bearer of the promises of God. On the other side, Ephesians is 'supersessionist' in a broad sense, insofar as it does not foster a theological 'two-way'-model, i.e. the idea of a separate path of salvation of ethnic Israel. Yet, this form of 'supersessionism' should not be identified as anti-Judaism. Even though the author of Ephesians, at the end of the first century A.D., proposes 'a new definition of Israel without reference to the Law' (Martin Hüneburg), the importance of Israel is strongly underlined, the traditional authority of the Hebrew Bible maintained, and the liturgical, theological and ethical material of the letter deeply embedded in Jewish traditions.
