The environment that surrounds children is full of geometric shapes, for this reason, knowing how to distribute objects in space is one of the many reasons for teaching geometry in school settings. This research is part of the development of geometric thinking, and its objective is to design the approach of a didactic strategy that allows fifth grade students of the Agroindustrial Educational Institution the Pasto’s to strengthen geometric processes based on symbolic elements. specific to their culture. For this, the study and application of the Van Hiele Geometric Reasoning Model is used, seeking to facilitate a better understanding and application of geometry.The methodological design on which this research is based is descriptive and interpretive. The instruments used to collect the information was the questionnaire, which made it possible to identify the causes of the difficulties in learning thegeometric process and the semi-structured interview to be able to respond to the individual and collective needs raised by the researchers. The focus group was the fifth grade of elementary school from the Pasto’s Agroindustrial Educational Institution.
