نبذة مختصرة : This paper deals with the relationship between urban survey, drawing and urban morphology, renewal and architectural design in the Portuguese cultural-geographical context. To this end, emblematic buildings have been selected for their significant contribution in the process of urban sedimentation, following changes in form and use over the last twenty years. The investigation focuses on how the survey – in a certain sense analogical – and the reading of the great continuous stratification of urban designs, favour both a conscious mutation in the form of the building and the fusion of different temporalities, between pre-existence and new construction, and the establishment of new and profitable relationships with the public space. The article draws on individual post-doc research and on a selection of case studies from a wide range of buildings examined in the framework of the large-scale national research project BUILDINGS, both recently concluded. ; Peer Reviewed ; Postprint (published version)
