; This paper is based on a social experiment, conducted as an attempt to validate a model of environmental education based on the program of cultural diversity and land-based lifestyles. An experimental workshop was carried out to clarify what Japanese children and their guardians living in urban cities can learn from Mongolian nomadic people's way of life. In the workshop, many photographs are showed to the participants to understand the Mongolian nomadic way of life. Some photos are taken by a Mongolian little girl, which she felt are important in her life. Other materials included video clips and objects which are seemingly stimulating the five senses. The children and guardians who participated in the workshop have reported as follows: to learn the cultural diversity gradually, the question of what is "normal" in our daily lives, the awareness that life is interconnected in the cycle of the natural world, the feeling of communal tie with people, the perception of the beings that we are unable to see, and a new perspective on the relationship between people and nature. This experimental study will be further developed with careful consideration on methodology, program content and efficacy, learning from cultural diversity found among diverse socio-political and environmental conditions. Specifically, these further studies would include how ecological systems are preserved and traditional knowledge are passed down, and what is the role of community in the globalizing world.
