      The present dissertation was developed within the scope of the Mestrado Profissional em Gestão e Avaliação da Educação (PPGP) of the Centro de Políticas Públicas e Avaliação da Educação da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (CAEd/UFJF). The management case studied discussed the use of free educational software in the teaching and learning processes in state schools of the Superintendência Regional de Ensino (SRE) in the city of Conselheiro Lafaiete, Minas Gerais state. For this, the scenarios were presented for the implementation of federal and state public policies aimed at the distribution of computers and technological resources, besides the training of teachers for the use of operating systems and free educational software. The objective defined for this study were to investigate and analyze the initiatives and experiences of teachers in the use of free educational software in the teaching and learning processes, besides identifying the problems that hinder the effective use of the Digital Technologies of Information and Communication (DTIC). The guiding question of this research was the following: What are the possibilities for the pedagogical use of free educational software in the teaching and learning processes in the state schools of Conselheiro Lafaiete SRE? It is a research whose methodology was qualitative and that used questionnaires as instruments of data production, which were answered by the technicians of the Núcleo de Tecnologia Educacional (NTE), by the managers of the state schools of the circumscription of SRE and by the teachers who excelled in the use of free educational software. As a theoretical reference, were used the following studies: Almeida e Valente (2016); Bonilla (2012), (2014); Bonilla e Pretto (2015); Freitas (2015); Pretto e Pinto (2006); Pretto (2013), (2013a); Silveira (2004), (2005); as well as others that approach the use of the DTIC and the free educational software associated with teacher education.
