Nursing interventions for the prevention of hypertension in adults : A literature review

Hypertension is known as high blood pressure. It is a severe medical condition that increases the risk of heart attack, ischaemic stroke, kidney failure, heart failure, and premature death. Therefore, controlling high blood pressure is important because it can prevent the risk of developing chronic sicknesses. The thesis aimed to collect information about nursing interventions for improving the management of hypertension. The narrative literature review method was used for this thesis. Data was collected from reliable theoretical databases offered at Centria University of Applied Sciences, which included Science Direct, Cinahl (EBSCO), PubMed, and SAGE. The content analysis method was used to analyze the research findings. The review revealed that nursing interventions such as assisting self-management, patient education and counselling for lifestyle modification, telenursing, and detecting poor adherence to treatment are highly effective nursing interventions in the control of hypertension and the nurse can play a significant role in the management of hypertension.
