      The present research has as its main theme the use of mobile applications as a tool in pedagogical English language teaching. For this reason, throughout the research we present a historical review on the teaching of foreign language in Brazil, the implications for the teaching of English language changes in specific legislation and present a panorama of the teaching of English in mainstream schools; moreover, we present the concepts of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), multiliteracy, mobile learning and expose the initiatives for the promotion of this mode of learning in several countries. In an ethnographic perspective and collaborative, the work was developed with students in grades the end of elementary education at located in João Pessoa - PB. In order to introduce this research, we have presented our proposal to students and the Institution pedagogical group of professionals, later, upon the accession of those involved in the research, we conducted an activity in which the students have researched and used mobile applications directed to the teaching of foreign languages. As a result, the results of activities with mobile applications were submitted by the class. In another moment, was drawn up a workshop targeted to students from other classes and parents, having as objective to present a mobile application directed to teaching the English language selected by the class participant. The last step of our investigation was proposed by students and consisted of the use of mobile applications more popular among them, using only the english language to mediate contacts and communication in virtual spaces. The results of this study show the importance of the use of mobile applications, as well as digital technologies in the teaching and learning process of the English language.
