نبذة مختصرة : This study was carried out to investigate the pollution pattern of roadside forest soils originated by vehicle exhausting. The concentrations of exchangeable heavy metals, As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Mi, Pb, Zn are analyzed for 4 sites along Seoul-Munsan national highway. Samples were collected with stainless trowel at depth of 0~10㎝ from surface soils. At each site, samples were also taken at distances of <5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100m from the road to investigate the effect of distance. And the physical &chemical properties of soils were analyzed to investigate the relationship with the contents of heavy metals. The result of size analysis showed that soil samples were classified as sandy loam in site A, loam in site Band C, silty loam in site D. Soil water contents had weak negative relationship with heavy metal contents. Soil water interacts with carbonic acid, and so contributes to soil acidification. But nutrients leaching does not take place easily in fine texture soil with high water content. So, it is not reasonable to insist that water content itself affects the heavy metal levels directly. Soil bulk density generally relates to soil texture, soil structure. But bulk density didn't affect soil properties in this study. Average heavy metal contents of all samples were 6.16ppm for As, 0.13ppm for Cd, 0.47ppm for Cr, 2.72ppm for Cu, 0.77ppm for Ni, 6.17ppm for Pb, 6.57ppm for Zn.
