نبذة مختصرة : Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIO) is the leading cause of secondary osteoporosis, but currently remains under-diagnosed and under-treated. In 2014, French recommendations on the prevention and treatment of GIO have been updated. The aim of our study was to evaluate their implementation in general practice. This multicentric, observational, study included menopausal women and men older than 50 years of age taking oral glucocorticoids for more than 3 months at any dose. General practitioners from Lower Normandy were contacted between July 2017 and July 2018 to provide a questionnaire to their patients in order to collect socio-demographic data, complementary examinations and treatments received. We received 27 replies: 25 patients have been included. Eighty per cent of the patients claimed to have been informed of the risk of bone fragility. A bone densitometry was recommended to all patients, but only 56% of them had this test performed. Among the patients with an indication to an anti-osteoporotic drug, only 37.5% were treated. Bone densitometry and anti-osteoporotic drug were significantly less prescribed in men (25% versus 85%, p=0.003, and 8% versus 61%, p=0.011, respectively). Our study finds an insufficient implementation of the recommendations. Improvements in the prevention and treatment of GIO must be done, particularly among men, who are significantly less screened and treated than women.
