International audience ; If the story is part of a search for legitimacy for heritage institutions, the place it occupies and the forms it takes differ greatly from one institution to another. We are interested here in the narratives accompanying the online collections of libraries.It is a question of grasping the way in which the story is mobilized in the online mediation of written heritage. Like the museum (Tardy and Renaud, 2016), we consider here the library as an instance of enunciation which, in a logic of heritage enhancement, will make discursive choices which will delimit the possible space of interpretations.Even if the use of digital technology has been deployed massively, responding to a need for institutional renewal, we formulate the hypothesis that it does not bring real innovation in the mediation of library heritage. We wonder to what extent current narratives allow the sharing of an informational culture between expert knowledge and lay knowledge? How and in what forms does the use of storytelling fit into the communication project of the library? What links are desired and actually operated between the work of "documentarization" of heritage collections and the need to mediate them to allow their appropriation by a wider public?To do this, we rely on a field study conducted with the Toulouse Mediatheques network and the Grand Albigeois Mediatheques network in 2021. Our attention was focused on the analysis of the stories and speeches produced by the professionals as to to their heritage collections. It was a question of apprehending the way in which the story is mobilized by the professionals in the valuation of heritage while analyzing to what extent (s) it is or is not constitutive of its mediation. Ultimately, we report on the way in which the discursive strategy around the written heritage is considered and implemented between the need for transmission, institutional constraints and adaptation of forms and content to the target audiences.
