92 once ran second, is now a stepchild with five majors in 1972. All the foregoing tells us something, just what is difficult to say. Could it be poor counseling? Are some teachers superior and have more drawing power than others? Is this upsurge of the Behavioral Sciences a national trend? Some contend that the Behavioral Sciences route is the easiest road to a degree. This writer wouldn't know. Whatever the reason for this rapid growth in the Behavioral Sciences, one thing is certain. Bellevue College is producing its share of psychologists and sociologists to help solve the problems in a troubled world. Business Administration is still going strong but has to settle for second place. The "also rans" will have to come up with some new recipes if they hope to get into the race. The present imbalance is not conducive to providing a well-rounded liberal arts program. This opinion, of course, can be passed over as so much "sour grapes." Some past and present personnel of the College have said that there is too much of the "high school" approach in Bellevue College. This writer, having served in both kinds of institutions, sees some merit in their observations. This situation is changing as the years pass. Military experience of many employees may be another reason that Bellevue College is somewhat different than other colleges. This writer believes this is an asset for there is a great need for more discipline today. It makes for better study habits. This is apparent in the night classes where the majority are, or have been, Service connected. These students are a joy to instruct. They are here to learn. Selection of faculty personnel has not always followed the rule book which says: "The full-time faculty of Bellevue Colelge is selected with great care. The selection is accomplished by the Academic Dean and the Chairman of the appropriate department, and the actual appointment is made by the President." This procedure looks good in print but, too often, the Chairman is either bypassed or is given little voice. ...
