      Emeritus Professor at the University of Brasília (UnB), former president of the National Institute for Studies and Research in Education Anísio Teixeira, and current faculty member of the Graduate Program in Human Rights and Citizenship at UnB, sociologist Pedro Demo is a scholar of Philosophy of Science, Pedagogy, and Social Sciences, with over a hundred published books. He collaborated with Darcy Ribeiro on the project of Integrated Centers of Public Education (CIEPs). In this email interview, he condenses his theses on the prevailing "instructivism" in Brazilian universities, emphasizes the urgency to transform university students into authors of knowledge rather than mere reproducers of it, explains why scientific publications prioritize quantity over quality (valuing articles more than books), details his reflection on outreach as the "bad conscience" of the university, and proposes that architecture should design university campuses inspired by the Persian bazaar.
