Relatório de Estágio do Mestrado Integrado em Ciências Farmacêuticas apresentado à Faculdade de Farmácia ; The present document is the result of the theoretical and practical work developed within the context of the curricular unit "Internship", integrated in the 2nd semester of the 5th year, in the study plan of the Integrated Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (MICF, from the Portuguese Mestrado Integrado em Ciências Farmacêuticas) of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra (FFUC, from the Portuguese Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Coimbra). The presentation, public discussion and approval of this work are required conditions for the completion of the course and consequent obtention of the Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences.The document consists of three parts. In the first and second parts are presented, respectively, the Community Pharmacy Internship Report and the Pharmaceutical Industry Internship Report. After a brief contextualization of the places where the internships took place, both reports take the form of a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis and a critical appreciation of the internships is made. Additionally, in the Community Pharmacy Internship Report, a description of five practical cases that occurred during the internship and that I considered relevant to integrate into this work is presented. Lastly, the third part of the work corresponds to the Monograph, entitled “The effect of antibiotics on the gut microbiota and its relationship with depression”. In the monograph, it is attempted to understand how antibiotics impact the gut microbiota and the possible relationship to depression.Mental health is one of the main public health challenges in Europe.
