      The research developed addressed the teaching of Cartography in Elementary School of the public network of the city of Santa Maria, in Rio Grande do Sul (RS). For this, it was highlighted how the teachers of the public network see this theme and based on these perceptions we sought to propose alternative activities for the teaching of Cartography. The school chosen for the elaboration and development of the proposal was the Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental General Gomes Carneiro, located in the Noal neighborhood. To recognize the scenario studied, data were collected, through questionnaires, with public school teachers, which supported the proposition of the pedagogical activity. For the evaluation of this, a preliminary questionnaire and a subsequent one were made, and the reports of the class teacher were analyzed, seeking to relate to the demands presented by the base group of teachers. With the results, the gaps and weaknesses were identified and discussed, which systematized the script of the complementary activities proposed as a strategy for teaching Cartography, to be sent to all participants in the initial phase of the proposal. Thus, it was concluded that the activity developed collaborated with the demands identified by the Geography teachers, as well as for the learning of the students involved in the testing of the systematized pedagogical proposal. ; A pesquisa desenvolvida abordou sobre o ensino de Cartografia no Ensino Fundamental da rede pública da cidade de Santa Maria, no Rio Grande do Sul (RS). Para isso, destacou-se como os docentes da rede pública veem essa temática e com base nessas percepções procurou-se propor atividades alternativas para o ensino de Cartografia.
