Insulation coordination is a fundamental part of the research, study and design phase of substations and lines. With an adequate procedure, it is possible to ensure that the insulation level meets optimal technical and economic criteria, guaranteeing that the equipment can withstand the most common overvoltages that may appear and, in turn, ensuring the continuity of the electrical energy supply service. In this curricular integration work, the most relevant points for insulation coordination in type I systems will be analyzed, based on what is established in the IEEE Std. C62.82.1 standard. For this purpose, the procedure established in the standard will be used for two theoretical systems that are proposed in the same standards, in order to compare the results obtained under the procedure of the IEEE Std. C62.82.1 standard, compared to the results presented in other work under the application of the IEC 60071-2 standard. A special emphasis is placed on the fact that this work does not have as its objective the development of a coordination study, but rather the detailed analysis of a theoretical case study for comparative purposes of the coordination processes or methodologies proposed by the standards.
