Selecção e discriminação dos profissionais de enfermagem durante o Estado Novo (1938-1963)

Este artigo analisa as consequências da intervenção do Estado Novo nas escolas de enfermagem. No final do século XIX, foram criadas em Portugal as primeiras escolas de enfermagem para formar cientificamente alunos de ambos os sexos, sem qualquer discriminação de género ou estado civil. Na década de 1940 esta situação altera-se, devido à interferência do Estado na formação do pessoal de enfermagem. A imposição de novas regras para as escolas de enfermagem afectou também os profissionais de enfermagem, bem como o sistema nacional de saúde e a assistência aos pacientes em meio hospitalar. ; Cet article analyse les conséquences de l’intervention de l’Etat Nouveau dans les écoles de soins infirmiers. A la fin du XIXe siècle, les premières écoles de soins infirmiers furent créées au Portugal pour former scientifiquement des élèves des deux sexes, sans aucune discrimination de genre ou d’état civil. Durant la décennie de 1940, cette situation évolue avec l’interférence de l’Etat portugais dans la formation du personnel infirmier. L’imposition de nouvelles règles aux écoles de soins infirmiers a également affecté les professionnels en soins infirmiers, ainsi que le système national de santé et l’assistance aux patients en milieu hospitalier. ; This article focuses on the intervention of the Estado Novo in the Portuguese nursing schools and its consequences. At the end of the 19th century, the first nursing schools were created in Portugal to give a scientific training to students of both genders, without any discrimination by gender or by marital status. In the 1940s, this situation changed, due to the interference of the Portuguese State in the nursing staff training. The establishment of new rules for the nursing schools affected also the nursing professionals, as well as the national wealth system and the assistance to hospitals’ patients.
